Created by John 3 years agoJune Leigh Dieter passed away on December 14, 2021 aged 85 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
June was the daughter Wilfred and Doris Rushton of Bolton, Lancashire and was born on April 22, 1936. She was raised in Lancashire and attended Bolton Grammar School. As a teenager, June was an accomplished pianist and accepted to the Royal College of Music. June blazed her own trail and joined the Lancashire County Constabulary and was their first female police detective and rose to the rank of Detective Sergeant over a ten year career.
June emigrated to the United States and lived in the Chicago area from 1972 to 1976 and was a legal executive assistant. She was joined by her widowed mother Doris during this time. June returned to the UK in May 1976 and owned Abbot House, a gift shop in Newton Abbot until 1979. June had an adventurous and entrepreneurial flair and started a number of businesses over her working life including an import business bringing pottery and wool knitwear from Malta, a fixed fee estate agency in Paignton, a Ministry of Defense and Naval engineering sub-contracting business ("Western Approach Consulting Company Limited"), as well as a bed and breakfast in Shiphay and a cafe in Torre. Later, June worked in community mental health at Waverley House in Torquay. Through these endeavors June made many enduring friends over the years. For over 35 years, June lived at Redstone Lodge on Shiphay Lane, with her mother Doris and sons, as well as her cousin, Bernard McAndrews, and her husband John. The house was a labour of love with numerous remodels and many projects that kept her and John very busy. In more recent years, June and John enjoyed spending time in France and Spain.
June will be missed by her husband, John Leigh, and two sons, Mark Dieter and John Dieter and grandchildren as well as many friends in South Devon and the Blackpool area as well as across the world. June and John were married in Blackpool on 18 September, 2000. Mark is married to Anne and they have three children: Verity, Melissa and Francesca and they reside in Barnet, Hertfordshire. John Dieter is married to AJ and John also has three children: Jessica, Rachel and Joseph. John and his wife reside in Sarasota, Florida, USA.
